Premise

"We stand upon the precipice of change. The world fears the inevitable plummet into the abyss."
The Inquisition was formed in a moment of crisis. Conflicts spread across the land, old institutions crumbled, and a massive explosion at a peaceful conclave not only killed hundreds but tore a hole in the sky that spewed demons by the score. The fledgling organization was led by one of that tragedy's only survivors: a young woman who emerged from the smoking ruins with a strange magical mark on her hand and the power to close rifts and seal demons out of the world. They called her the Herald.
With her help and a growing number of allies, they succeeded in healing the Breach in the heavens and for a brief moment it seemed chaos would be averted. But when that massive rift clapped shut over Haven, the Herald was dead. And then it was revealed that the Breach had been no accident: it had been opened by Corypheus, an ancient mage of immense power, twisted by taint and time and bound on making himself a god to rule all of Thedas.
Years have now passed since that day, and what began as a sort of cold war between a rag-tag rogue organization against a mysterious foe few believed in has spread into open conflict that threatens to engulf the continent. Corypheus now rules two nations by proxy, and his armies have begun the conquest he promised. Everywhere his agents infiltrate society, expanding his reach. Against him stand the forces of the Inquisition, which has grown from its humble beginnings into a large and prominent organization, now led by a renewed Chantry at the head of the first Exalted March in two hundred years.
Despite the closure of the Breach smaller rifts continue to appear across Thedas, spilling out vicious demons and occasionally strange people who claim to be from other worlds and bear magical marks like the Herald's. At first given refuge by the Inquisition, these "Rifters," among others, now belong to a splinter organization known as Riftwatch, an allied off-shoot of the Inquisition tasked with clandestine work, controversial diplomacy, and arcane magical research.
From the slippery streets of a pirate-ridden harbor to the desolate expanse of a long-abandoned desert, the parlors of the elite to the front lines of a brutal war, to the hulking island fortress it calls home, Riftwatch works to hold back the insidious influence of Corypheus and his allies, and to find the edge that will be needed to defeat him. Whether an established member, a new hopeful, or an old friend (of a friend), anyone willing to dedicate themselves to the cause is needed."Watch for that moment, and when it comes, do not hesitate to leap. It is only when you fall that you learn whether you can fly."
Fade Rift is a panfandom fantasy adventure game set in Thedas, the world of the Dragon Age series. Prior familiarity with the canon is not required to play. The game is open to native characters both canon and original, and panfandom characters who are AU'd or arriving as Rifters from other worlds.
For those who are canon familiar, Fade Rift began just a few weeks after the conclusion of Dragon Age: Inquisition's first main quest, In Your Heart Shall Burn, and while many elements of DA:I's story are present, our plot has since diverged significantly from there. Characters from throughout the series as well as newcomers of all stripes are invited to help explore a vast, mysterious, magical landscape, to join the effort to save the world from the cruelest of conquerors, and to try to shape what will remain if they succeed.
