↠ We've allowed clerics/paladins/etc. in the past to have a native Thedosian spirit more or less take on the role of their gods. (Since you’re canon blind: native spirits are encountered primarily in dreams, embody emotions/concepts, and can take many forms that are usually inspired by the person they’re interacting with at the time. Mages and some fancy non-mages are also able to use their power while awake to do some magic things.)

So if you’d prefer for Mr. Dickerson to keep the cleric abilities you've described, he can do so! He’d encounter something similar to his god in his dreams (which would be fuzzy and so on, like normal dreams) and otherwise be able to use the abilities as normal. The extent to which he had to continue to please the spirit-god or might be able to cause it to warp/change or ignore it a bit more would be something you could play with over time, if you wanted to.
