Character: Prompto Argentum New Canon Point: After Episode Prompto, right when he's somehow captured and imprisoned in Zegnautus Keep Synopsis:Synopsis here. - Noctis accidentally mistakes Prompto for Ardyn and chases him throughout the train. When they get to the top of the train car, he knocks him off, realizing only at the last second that he was tricked and he just shoved his BFF off a train - Prompto collapses in the cold and wakes up in a magitek research facility - Ardyn, being Ardyn, taunts him and hints that he was "born" there. - Prompto discovers that he's a clone of Verstael, the leading magitek researcher for Niflheim, and was supposed to be another magitek trooper like the ones he's been killing throughout the game, but when he was still a baby, an unidentified Lucian broke into the facility and rescued him. - He has a bit of a heroic BSOD and an existential crisis to boot. Aranea finds him and gets him on his feet - Prompto doesn't want to reunite with his friends, afraid that they won't accept him because of what he is. Aranea yells at him a bit and helps him get his shit together. After some soul searching, he decides he's going to keep on going - He resolves to stop Verstael, who's created a monster that he merged his soul with. Verstael goes on a rampage, but Aranea and Prompto stop him with a lot of bullets. - Prompto thanks Aranea for her help and decides to join back up with Noctis and the others, despite his anxiety over what they'll think of him. - Somehow he winds up getting captured though and imprisoned in a fortress in the capital city.
Key Character Developments: This update is largely in part because I erroneously assumed that Prompto knew about the information he discovered in this episode beforehand, since, prior to the release of the episode, the game and lore were vague on what he knew about his past. So some of his personality changes/development I'd already played out in Fade Rift. Whoops. But new development is as follows: - His identity has been blown wide open. A part of Prompto still doesn't feel he's good enough for his friends, or even other people, because he wasn't born like a normal person. He's a clone born in a lab. The identity crisis was dehumanizing and brutal to him. So this has deteriorated his already low self-esteem a bit. - Regardless, he's gained the resolve to keep pressing on and help, not letting his fears stop him from doing what's right. - On the plus side, he's now a lot more self-sufficient and able to watch out and defend himself better than he could before. - He's also gained a lot of insight into his self and his psyche, understanding his past and what motivates him.
