As to the height: my apologies for not mentioning it, but 6'8 is probably a height Fingon only wishes he reached. The scarce implications of the text are that he's on the shorter end of the High Elf spectrum, and I tend to interpret him as being around 6'3-6'4. Sorry, I really should have brought that up.
