In order to decide if nerfs are necessary, we need a little more info about his abilities. Can you provide us a more specific list of your character's magical abilities and what the upper limits of those abilities would be pre-nerf? This doesn't have to be a full spell list with all of the detail we're sure is available in D&D. It'd be fine to just give us a bullet point list of single-sentence explanations. E.g., what types of elemental damage you're referring to and the extent of that potential damage, what you mean by inflicting "curses and diseases" (whether it's "can give someone a cold" or "can cause someone's limbs to die and fall off"), and what (if any) other categories of magic he's capable of doing and what their limits are, etc.
