War Table (Defunct)

WAR TABLE (DEFUNCT)

This is a defunct version of this page. For the new version, please go back to the game navigation and choose the War Table link.

Thedas is a big world with a lot to do, and the war against Corypheus has about a hundred fronts, so between major mod events, plot progression takes the form of player plots and plots that originate from divisions and projects. These smaller plots can be anything from negotiating agreements with foreign dignitaries to infiltrating enemy operations to escorting shipments of pedigree nugs through a haunted forest as a favor to an ally. Some of them will directly influence the overarching mod plot; others may just be fun.

Players whose characters lead the divisions and projects IC facilitate plot efforts by setting the agenda for each group's work—they identify the main objectives the team will be focused on and sometimes develop specific plot assignments to accomplish the group's goals.

CLICK HERE FOR THE CURRENT PLOT CYCLE.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
  1. Read! The divisions and each project have separate comments below explaining what they'll be working on over the coming months. Read up on the ones your characters belong to and think about how they'd contribute. (If your character hasn't joined any division or project, you can join a division by updating your character's info on the taken list or join a project by filling out the form on the corresponding project page.)

  2. Contribute! Use the provided forms to document the ways your character will be contributing to the objectives—or if there's something else they intend to pursue within the project's scope that isn't covered by those objectives. These can be simple things that will occur in the background of your other RP, like "John is going to research dwarven etiquette to assist the team going to Orzammar," or they can be bigger things that warrant a player plot, like "John is going to assassinate King Bhelen." IC leaders will reply to let you know if their characters wouldn't approve of what yours are doing or to help you if you need help. (You can also reply to other players' comments if you have something to add or suggest, but we recommend making separate OOC posts or using the CR meme for pure brainstorming sessions.)

  3. RP! If your characters are doing background work, like research or the types of mini-plots we specify don't need plot requests, you can get straight to it (or submit an info request if needed). If your characters are doing something that does warrant a plot request, submit one, and then play it out after we've gotten back to you.

  4. File a report with the appropriate project or division after a significant plot has been completed. You don't need to do these for research or the kinds of minor plots that don't require plot requests. But reports allow everyone to keep up what's going on in the game—because there is usually a lot—and respond to, reward, or build on your character's efforts in the future. If you negotiate a treaty but don't file a report about it, we'll generally assume that it hasn't happened. And remember that folks who run player plots get bonus AC reward points once a report is filed!

If you have your own ideas for plots pertinent to divisions or projects outside those covered by objectives, or for personal plots that don't fit into any of these boxes at all, you're always welcome to separately submit player plot requests! You can also donate ideas directly to IC leaders or other players if you have plot ideas but would rather not run them yourself. And if you want to get involved in running a project, check the leadership roles list for vacancies in division or project leadership slots.

CHARACTER: Cosima Niehaus
ASSIGNMENT: Survey
DIVISION & PROJECTS:
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Cosima is venturing back into fieldwork a little with a nice calm assignment that probably won't end up with her imprisoned. Her approach is pretty methodical and meticulous. Lots of notes, lots of measurements. Organized and cohesive observations are her jam.
OTHER NOTES: ...please do not actually imprison Cosima.

FORCES

[personal profile] frdivisions 2018-09-29 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)

Signups are due October 10th.

Any character may sign up, but preference will be given to Forces members. Characters without any Division will not be sent this round.

Note: Characters are responsible for their choices in a given mission (but not their RNG luck — don't worry!), and may face IC consequences for intentional sabotage. If your character would try something, please make sure that your team is on-board OOC.

Feel free to hit me up ([personal profile] limier) if you have any questions.

DEAD OF KNIGHT

Dame Ines, a Chevalier who gained distinction in the Civil War, has offered a personal survey of the frontlines in Churneau. Inquisition members have been sent to meet her to maintain appearances before the Ander army, and to discuss plans to secretly reinforce Ghislain. The problem is: She’s dead. And her troops look guilty.

This mission has a 40% chance of destabilizing the company, rolled for in Discord.

WHERE: Churneau, Orlais.
WHEN: Harvestmere.
WHO: 1 - 3 Characters, at least one member of Forces.

I ♥ FALL

Ghislain was once home to a Circle of Magi. Though unoccupied for several years, the structure is large, old, and potentially magically unstable. It shouldn’t be taken by the enemy. Investigate, and determine how to proceed. Potential approaches include trapping the Circle, clearing it for use as a fortress, accidentally falling through the floor into a giant pit, you know. The usual.

This mission has a 30% chance of attracting enemy attention, rolled for in Discord.

WHERE: Ghislain, Orlais.
WHEN: Harvestmere.
WHO: 1 - 3 Characters, at least one member of Forces.

DANGEROUS GAME

The rich fields of the Orlesian Heartlands aren’t so rich after half a decade of interior strife. Comte Chantral de Velun — a supporter of Gaspard — narrowly survived the Civil War, but maintains a rocky relationship with the throne. He's now attached a number of small, chiefly symbolic demands to his agreement to supply the Northern defense. Among these: to clear a group of bandits from his prized hunting grounds. Isn’t it dreadful, how readily elves resort to crime?

WHERE: Velun, Orlais.
WHEN: Harvestmere.
WHO: 1 - 3 Characters, at least one member of Forces.

CHARACTER: Max
ASSIGNMENT: The Slave Situation
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Diplomacy, Hostile Powers & Base Operations soon
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Max has acting skills, speaks decent Tevene, and has experience with slavery in Tevinter. She's not at all open about her personal history or excited about putting herself at risk, BUT if teams are being put together she'd want to make sure the information is successfully acquired and nobody screws up and gets themselves in trouble. She'd cite her familiarity with the slave trade in Nascere as evidence of her suitability.
OTHER NOTES: She has a good understanding of why slaves might be wary of the whole rebellion idea, so she might be good for talking to the kinds of folks who are less eager to speak openly about that kind of thing? But she's prooobably best paired with people who actually believe resisting the Venatori won't just get a bunch of slaves killed. Also: I'd be game for her tagging along vs. leading a mission if that makes more sense.

CHARACTER: Gwenaëlle Baudin
ASSIGNMENT: Better lifeboats.
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Forces | Naval Presence
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Her relevant skill here is "strong swimmer", and she's keen to diversify her portfolio, e.g. learn more about sailing, at least, and how to recognize good craftsmanship.

CHARACTER: Galatea Lourdes
ASSIGNMENT: Equal interest in delivering the message / evacuating the chantry.

CHARACTER: Inessa Serra
ASSIGNMENT: Bartrand's Folly
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research || Red Lyrium, Rifts and the Veil
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Inessa is knowledgeable about red lyrium and experienced in combat, along with being a Grey Warden so she doesn't have to worry about taint if darkspawn are around. She would want to be thorough and destroy all that they find, before the Red Templars can get to it.
OTHER NOTES: Garahel will be joining, of course.

CHARACTER: Alistair
ASSIGNMENT: From the Bottom Up, From the Top Down
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research, Corypheus' History & Other Powers
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: He's a Warden, and he knows a couple of things about red lyrium. He isn't the best actor in the world, but if he's allowed to act like a dumb slab of muscle or like basically himself-if-he-were-a-smuggler, he'd be okay. He's also, again, not the best at diplomacy or forgery, but he can keep up with people who are without ruining everything, probably.

CHARACTER: Silas Caron
ASSIGNMENT: Blood Magic
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Forces; Rifts & the Veil, Red Lyrium
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: He's a Templar, albeit one with only minimal experience actually combating mages instead of watching them eat while trying not to fall asleep behind his visor. He aims for peaceful resolutions where possible.
OTHER NOTES: He's a side character and not a member of the project, so last priority if we run out of spots—but he could fill the Templar requirement.

CHARACTER: Alexandrie de la Fontaine
ASSIGNMENT: Ear to the Ground
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Diplomacy; Corypheus’ History (she decided she’s here now, hi)
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Lexie speaks and reads several languages, is familiar with the dry research of families and houses and trade etc, and has both lovely handwriting and rather specializes in buttering people up, very sweetly and gently blackmailing them, and otherwise getting people to do what she wants them to. Being part of the peerage means she’ll maybe have some ideas on who might have some relevant libraries or have a leg up on convincing at least Orlesians. Maybe a leg down on Fereldans. Eh.
OTHER NOTES: Filled with firey desire for vengeance

ELVEN ARTIFACTS

[personal profile] writteninblood 2018-10-01 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Electric Eluvian Boogaloo Bash
During the Grand Tourney, Alexandrie de Fontaine persuaded Guieffroy Loupe to give the Inquisition use of a fortress he owns in the Hunterhorn Mountains. While ordinarily of little use, it's at risk of soon being behind enemy lines, which allows for a disadvantage to be turned to advantage. Skyhold is asking us to do whatever is necessary to place an accessible eluvian in the fortress before movement through the region becomes impossible. This will give the Inquisition a backdoor to get behind enemy lines and serve as an experiment for the feasibility of using eluvians for faster transportation across Thedas in general.

To pull that off, the project will, obviously, need at least two eluvians: one to place in the fortress, and another to keep at the Gallows.

Team One: The Jailbreak Jitterbug
WHAT: The call goes out to those who may be in possession of Eluvians, or the knowledge thereof, to lend their precious artifacts to the Inquisition's needs. Quietly. Very quietly. For this mission, you'll need to deliver the request to the following Inquisition members and supporters without being seen or overheard. Player-Characters will have their own opinions, but are members of the inquisition. Please ask Morrigan and/or Merrill to lend the use of their precious elven artifacts to the Inquisition's use for this endeavor, and do your best to convince them. You will be provided with a small discretionary fund to support these efforts and to compensate the Inquisition's eluvian-having allies for their assuredly temporary and not at all permanent generosity, which has a definite end-date, at some point.
WHEN: Harvestmere
WHERE: Kirkwall
WHO: 1-3 people, at least one of whom ought to be a member of the Scouting Divison. Cannot be part of "Team 2"

Team Two: The Heist Hula
WHAT: With success as a mandate, and on orders from Skyhold, native elves will use the Lights of Arlathan and the various underworld connections to locate and extract working Eluvians from at least one target for Inquisition purposes. Since this mission is of the utmost importance, we need to get those Eluvians quickly and by any means possible— if they can't be convinced to part with their prizes, they must be coerced, bypassed, or otherwise overridden. But, it's better to do this quietly, and without a fuss; possibly without even exploring the diplomatic option first. Use your best judgement and do not fail.
There are two potential targets:
Option A: A wealthy collector of oddities and self-proclaimed naturalist who has an Eluvian as a prized part of his extensive private collection.
Option B: the estate of a Ferelden noble with too much money, too many dogs, and some real mean-spirited locks. He keeps his Eluvian in his private chambers. For some reason.
WHEN: Harvestmere
WHERE: The Free Marches, Northern Ferelden
WHO: 2-4 People, at least one of whom ought to be a member of the Scouting Divison. Cannot be part of "Team 1." Please include your preference of heist target when signing up.

Team Three: Scoutin' Samba
WHAT: This is a two-part mission. With at least one eluvian acquired and another identified as a potential target, a team will enter the first eluvian and attempt to emerge on the other side. They will enter the crossroads, experience the supreme weirdness of them, and deal with three (3) random terrors from a handy-dandy random encounter table. If and when they emerge victorious, it's time for the whole team to pack up and take a field trip to Orlais! Traveling in secret to a hidden fortress in Hunterhorn Mountains, along the way they will encounter a further three (3) random hazards from the random encounter table, and must cope with them while maintaining the integrity of the eluvian, the secrecy of the mission, and the timetable of the move. They will then need to hide the mirror and escape like the dirty sneaks that they are.
WHEN: Harvestmere
WHERE: Orlais, The Crossroads Between Eluvians
WHO: 2-5 People, at least one of whom ought to be part of the Scouting Division. Can also be a part of either "Team 1" or "Team 2" Please include the results of 1 D4 die roll when signing up.

IF INTERESTED, PLEASE SIGN UP BY OCTOBER 6

ASSIGNMENT: Fields of Red
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Forces, Rifts & the Veil and Red Lyrium
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: He's a Templar, he could tell some convincing horror stories about what red lyrium has done to some of his old friends, and his presence is usually affable and professional in a way that's more working class than noble—which is to say, he's good at talking to and relating with poor people.

Approves of the Qun & qunari and so would like to take opportunities to understand them better/demonstrate good will toward them. Has supernatural powers (truthsense + raveling) that, IF WORKING, could help immensely with figuring out whether & how a blood mage might be involved.

RESEARCH

[personal profile] rowancrowned 2018-10-02 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
FRIENDS IN SAINTED PLACES
open to: Research members, capped at five people.

The ruling family of Ghislain, the de Ghislains, have a large stake in the city and surrounding countryside remaining unmolested by Corypheus' forces. While the current Duke, Bastien de Ghislain, remains incapacitated by illness, his son Laurent, a devout Andrastian, does most of the day to day work. He has requested that the Inquisition make an inventory of all the various artifacts in his possession, just in case, in return for boarding at the family estate and the loan of several tomes to the Inquisition.

Also of note is Laurent's aunt, the Grand Cleric Marcelline, who is rumored to have more than a few fingers in the selection for the next Divine. She will also be in residence at the estate. Discovering her current leanings and encouraging her sympathy for the Inquisition is highly encouraged.

RIFTCON 9:44
open to: Research members and characters either with a) an academic past or b) ties to Markham or the Free Marches, capped at five people.

The University of Markham is about to host a gathering in protest of the Chantry's recently issued edict that Rifters are not demons. Protesting the edict on the ground that a Divine did not make the ruling, the academics are doing what academics do best, which is getting a bunch of prominent scholars to write thinkpieces and deliver lectures during a gathering at the university. Like-minded clerics and scholars will be attending the event.

Those participating in this mission will decide how best to handle the news, and if that includes attending, will be firmly away from the events in Orlais, safe and sound.

TRAP MAKING, PT. 1

open to: all members of the Inquisition, no cap.

Experiment and improve upon current trap designs, and decide where they ought to be placed to most inconvenience Corypheus' oncoming army. Possibly test them on yourself and or friends, to nonlethal effect, and then scatter them through the countryside.

Participants may also choose to go a bit further in making the countryside inhospitable, such as poisoning water sources etc.

ON THEIR STOMACH
open to: all members of the Inquisition, no cap.

The wilds of Orlais are filled with delicious, wild-growing treats and snacks that could be used to supplement the diet and medical supplies of an army on the move, even if half of that army doesn't eat because they've been turned into Red Lyrium rock candy do not lick. However, most of these plants have les faux amis, such as the poisonous-in-high-doses and diarrhea-in-low-doses cousin of the regular delicious chestnut, the horse chestnut. And who can forget that one plant that looks a lot like elfroot but actually causes a severe rash and bleeding from the nose and mouth? Answer: not you, once you've experienced it!

Those participating in this mission will be dispatched into the wilds surrounding Ghislain armed with baskets and plant-identifying books. Your orders are to strip the countryside of all the useful plants, both medicinal and edible, and leave their annoying, poisonous cousins for Corypheus' forces.

They may also choose to note the locations of farms and graineries in the area to be set to the torch before the assault.

SECRETS SECRETS ARE NO FUN
open to: all members of the Inquisition, capped at five people.

Intercepted Venatori communications have revealed their interest in a particular area in Northern Orlais. Cross-referencing the map with some earlier ones in the Inquisition's position have revealed that the location is rumored to have a shrine to one of the Old Gods of the Imperium, meaning that it's probably something Corypheus and his remaining general, Calpernia, care about, which means that the Inquisition cares about it too. A team is needed to stealthily infiltrate the area and report back with further intelligence to see if infiltration or out-right assault is possible before the advance of Corypheus' forces.

*** REPORTS FOR ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE DUE BY NOVEMBER 10th, SIGN-UPS CLOSE OCTOBER 10th.

The responsibility of turning in the report is on the leader of the mission. If you are not comfortable with this responsibility (remember, no report means automatic failure of the assignment) please indicate as much in the 'other notes' section.

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

[personal profile] frprojects 2018-10-05 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT: Deliver a Message to Provisional Grand Chancellor Pascal

WHO: Coupe, Araceli

HOW: This is fairly straightforward! Your characters will need to travel to Val Royeaux to politely deliver Seeker Pentaghast and Sister Leliana's joint message declining to be considered for Divine, which will include some additional niceties about being prepared to be of service to whomever is selected in everyone's mutual goal to end the threat posed by Corypheus. The Provisional Grand Chancellor will be disappointed—indicating their refusal will extend the process, as they were the most unifying candidates—but polite and make accommodations for your characters to join him and a few resident clergy for dinner. Your characters can also take advantage of an opportunity to eavesdrop in the halls or collect gossip. Altogether, they can acquire the following information about five significant contenders for the Sunburst Throne, with the plain text told to them openly over dinner, and the bold requiring deliberate eavesdropping and/or more direct snooping through documents.

  • Grand Cleric Gertruda of Tantervale: Think Mother Teresa: very strict conservative views, but best known for extensive philanthropic efforts among the poor that soften her image. She was one of the earliest and most vocal voices claiming rifters to be demons and the Inquisition to be a dangerous, rogue heretical organization defaming the memory of the original. The only statement she is presently willing to make publicly about rifters is that this is a decision for a Divine, and she will defer to her wisdom. She also seems to be moving more into the mainstream on the subject of the Inquisition--judging them as potential allies, if ones to remain wary of--but how much of this is political maneuvering (now that word of Cassandra and Leliana being approached has come out) and how much is her personally coming around is currently unknown.

  • Revered Mother Benedetta of Rialto: A reasonable person of genuine faith who doesn't hate anyone and wants to help them, but thinks the Chant is clear and should be followed to the letter so the Maker will return someday—meaning elves, dwarves, and Qunari need Andraste for their own sake and everyone else's, the traditional Circle system is ideal with perhaps some mild reform, etc. She is energetic and personally very charismatic, and she would likely be the clear frontrunner if she had been given another five or ten years' experience and wasn't so young, untested, and less well connected compared to the rest.

  • Grand Cleric Clorentine of Montsimmard: The only one of the Mothers present in Val Royeaux, so your characters can make their own observations as well. In summary, she is the blandest person alive and not particularly clever in her own right, but insulated from the Chantry's sometimes-violent politicking by wealthy supporters and an assortment of younger and much more calculating Mothers and Sisters who have hitched their own ambitions to her and are determined to see her rise. She is considered moderate mostly because her views frequently shift and equivocate, and she doesn't really seem committed to anything in particular, likely because she is so easily swayed by those around her.

  • Grand Cleric Agathe of Cumberland: Medium progressive and notoriously cautious—like Justinia before her, she is unlikely to implement extreme reform regardless of her personal feelings on anything, but may take more widely palatable baby steps toward raising elves above their current station or reforming the Circle system. Extremely effective and intelligent as long as she does not have to charm anyone, but in interpersonal dealings she can be harsh and nakedly ambitious, which has not earned her many friends.

  • Grand Cleric Elise of Ayesleigh: An older, famously progressive Mother who has been a voice for reform for several decades now and proven herself a reliable ally of nonhumans, mages, and the poor. However, this has made her unpopular with many of the more staid Chantry clergy and officials, and there are unconfirmed but very plausible rumors that Elise has begun to exhibit forgetfulness, moments of confusion, and slips into heresy or fantastic thinking that go beyond the acceptable lapses of a very old woman and into the early stages of dementia.

None of these individuals will seem to be a clear front runner, though opinions in Val Royeaux will seem to tilt toward the more conservative end of the spectrum. Additionally, while the present Mothers will all be varying degrees of self-assured and regal, the general atmosphere among the administrative staff in the Grand Cathedral will be scattered, disorganized, and fretful, with a lot of circles under a lot of eyes and frequent uncertainty in response to any detailed questions about the Divine Election process, in particular from Provisional Grand Chancellor Pascal, who is possibly too young and inexperienced for the role he's been asked to play.

OOC NOTES: Your characters are welcome to bring up to two additional people, as long as those people are reasonable choices to take. We're relying on the recovery of these candidates' names so we can publicize them to the rest of the game and open the door to player plots that would influence each candidate's chances of election, so please try to have a report in by the end of the month. Keep in mind that: (1) you don't have to directly RP the assignment itself if you would prefer to just RP some discussion about it or something, and (2) your report does not have to include all of this information if you would prefer for your characters to not learn all of it and/or choose not to officially record it, for whatever reason. If there are other details they would make a particular effort to uncover, you can drop us an info request and we'll let you know what, if anything, they'd learn!
