ACCEPTED + NOTES

WELCOME

So sorry for the delays here, we've had overlapping travel and planned badly for handling things in the meantime. Your application has been approved, with the following notes:
1) Cutting nature and blood magic works for us!

3) We can allow scrying with a mirror/crystal and the nerfs you proposed, with the caveat that it will also need to be unpredictable, similar to the spirit magic — she should be able to pick something up if people are within the proposed geographical range, but it may be cloudy or disjointed in a way that keeps her from knowing exactly where someone is or what's happening there rather than only having difficult-to-decipher fragments, just in case we or the players ever have plots that would fall apart if she were able to immediately and accurately locate someone.

And for healing: she can use her normal healing with the same efficiency and power as a spirit healer without using a spirit, but when she first arrives she may have general difficulty accessing her abilities with the same power she's used to. Studying native magic will help with this — not the specific ways that native mages do magic, but the techniques they use for drawing energy from the Fade. There's no mandated time scale for this! She can be back to normal as quickly as you'd like. It's mostly to help facilitate CR building via giving rifters a reason to talk to other characters about these things.

And here are our standard nerfs/reminders for rifters:

↠ All mages and rifters have a "line of sight" limitation on their powers: they can't cast spells or otherwise affect things too far away to see or fully hidden behind another object, or "shoot" magic around corners, etc. Ongoing concentration/maintenance to prevent decay of previously cast magic will also require proximity and a clear path. In your case, there are of course exceptions to this for the scrying and spirit magic/dream walking, but in the remainder of situations she'll need a straight unobstructed line between her and whatever she is using her magic on.

↠ All mages and rifters' abilities can be dispelled, halted by Templar/Seeker abilities, or prevented by magebane and anti-magic objects.

↠ Rifters are susceptible to the Blight and their magic can't impact the Blight in any way.

↠ Rifters can't learn native magic/spells. However, studying native magic may help them understand the new limits or alterations to their own abilities, and studying mages' techniques for channeling energy from the Fade can assist them in being able to do their own magic (which now relies on Fade energy the same as natives' does) more efficiently. Likewise, native mages or rifters from other worlds will not be able to learn how to do a rifter's unique type of magic. In Rowena's case, she can keep a unique casting style rather than needing to aesthetically mimic Thedosian casters, but if you'd rather her use a staff and so on or develop a hybrid style to achieve the same effects that's fine with us.

↠ All mages and powered rifters use the same energy source for their powers ("mana" in the games, but that's kind of silly so we mostly call it energy) with similar capacities to access that energy. It's subject to exhaustion, so doing large-scale magic will mean someone can't do other magic at the same time or immediately after. It's possible to run out of energy, same as with physical energy, and need a recovery period to be back at 100%.

↠ All magic will come with a chance of failure or resistance. You don't have to roll for anything unless you feel like it, but the possibility of a spell missing its target or someone shaking off the effect will still be there and can be used whenever narratively fun.
Welcome to Fade Rift! Before you start playing, please:
↠ Read the Rifter FAQ and particularly the sections relating to Arrival and Anchors.
↠ Join the Log, "Network," OOC, and (optional) Meme comms.
↠ Reply to the Taken List.
↠ Reply to the Player Contact List.
↠ Take a look at the most recent mod post concerning the state of the game and any plot sign-ups that may be ongoing.
You're then welcome to post an introduction to the OOC comm! Since your character is arriving via rift, you're welcome to post a rift arrival log or to begin RP in the Gallows and simply handwave that members of Riftwatch met your character on their arrival through the rift, helped them close it, and brought them to Kirkwall. If you have any questions, let us know.
