We're good with your proposal for gradually unlocking abilities! As general rules:

↠ Emma will be subject to the same line-of-sight limitation as native mages and will find magic similarly taxing. Abilities that do not have native analogs (so things like object replication, which native mages cannot do, as opposed to pyrokinesis, which they can) won't be impossible, but they will be more difficult and exhausting.

↠ She won't be able to learn native Thedosian magic that's outside the limits of her canon power set, but studying with native mages may help her improve or unlock her abilities as you described.

↠ You're free to have Emma develop the abilities that have canon counterparts--barriers, fire/electric magic within reasonable limits, the telekinesis, etc.--without coming back to ask for permission! If/when you want Emma to discover abilities that don't have clear counterparts in canon, please check in with us so we can let you know if there will be additional limits. (And thank you for being so willing to work with us on the nerfing thing!)
