Hi, mods! A very non-urgent question, but I wanted to slide in before your break:

The rule for duplicates at the same time - one OU rifter and one AU of any character - is pretty clear. And I've seen plenty of discussion about people picking up canon DA characters who have already been played or coming back with their own previously dropped character.

However, what's the position on someone apping a new Thedosian AU of a character who had previously been played? Would sanding the serial numbers off (for instance, with a name change) in combination with a different approach to adapting them be OK? If it helps to be specific: There was a Raylan Givens AU here a couple years ago who was a Fereldan mage named Raymond Gibbs, who has since dropped. If I were to use Justified's Raylan as a jumping off point for, say, a Marcher Templar named Rylan Takens (I would think of a real name, but you get my point), would that be acceptable, or violating the spirit of the rule even with the first AUed version gone?
