War Table (Defunct)
WAR TABLE (DEFUNCT)

This is a defunct version of this page. For the new version, please go back to the game navigation and choose the War Table link.
Thedas is a big world with a lot to do, and the war against Corypheus has about a hundred fronts, so between major mod events, plot progression takes the form of player plots and plots that originate from divisions and projects. These smaller plots can be anything from negotiating agreements with foreign dignitaries to infiltrating enemy operations to escorting shipments of pedigree nugs through a haunted forest as a favor to an ally. Some of them will directly influence the overarching mod plot; others may just be fun.
Players whose characters lead the divisions and projects IC facilitate plot efforts by setting the agenda for each group's work—they identify the main objectives the team will be focused on and sometimes develop specific plot assignments to accomplish the group's goals.
CLICK HERE FOR THE CURRENT PLOT CYCLE.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
- Read! The divisions and each project have separate comments below explaining what they'll be working on over the coming months. Read up on the ones your characters belong to and think about how they'd contribute. (If your character hasn't joined any division or project, you can join a division by updating your character's info on the taken list or join a project by filling out the form on the corresponding project page.)
- Contribute! Use the provided forms to document the ways your character will be contributing to the objectives—or if there's something else they intend to pursue within the project's scope that isn't covered by those objectives. These can be simple things that will occur in the background of your other RP, like "John is going to research dwarven etiquette to assist the team going to Orzammar," or they can be bigger things that warrant a player plot, like "John is going to assassinate King Bhelen." IC leaders will reply to let you know if their characters wouldn't approve of what yours are doing or to help you if you need help. (You can also reply to other players' comments if you have something to add or suggest, but we recommend making separate OOC posts or using the CR meme for pure brainstorming sessions.)
- RP! If your characters are doing background work, like research or the types of mini-plots we specify don't need plot requests, you can get straight to it (or submit an info request if needed). If your characters are doing something that does warrant a plot request, submit one, and then play it out after we've gotten back to you.
- File a report with the appropriate project or division after a significant plot has been completed. You don't need to do these for research or the kinds of minor plots that don't require plot requests. But reports allow everyone to keep up what's going on in the game—because there is usually a lot—and respond to, reward, or build on your character's efforts in the future. If you negotiate a treaty but don't file a report about it, we'll generally assume that it hasn't happened. And remember that folks who run player plots get bonus AC reward points once a report is filed!
If you have your own ideas for plots pertinent to divisions or projects outside those covered by objectives, or for personal plots that don't fit into any of these boxes at all, you're always welcome to separately submit player plot requests! You can also donate ideas directly to IC leaders or other players if you have plot ideas but would rather not run them yourself. And if you want to get involved in running a project, check the leadership roles list for vacancies in division or project leadership slots.
CORYPHEUS' HISTORY
WHAT: Warden Larius, who worked with Hawke to try to kill Corypheus, is one of the last people left who may know how Corypheus went from “dead and captured” to “alive and not captured.” Skyhold found a lead connecting Larius, who disappeared into the Deep Roads, to red lyrium smugglers. Infiltrating the smugglers may get us some information on Larius’ whereabouts.
WHERE: Tracking them down will be half the fun, right? We have a lead on Larius’ last known location, which should offer a starting point.
WHEN: Harvestmere
WHO: 1-2 Corypheus’ History members; participants can recruit +1 of their CR each so long as they fit the mission brief. This will be a subterfuge mission, and the people who go should be able to credibly impersonate smugglers long enough not to get caught. (Ideally, they’ll also be able to defend themselves if things go pear-shaped.)
FROM THE TOP DOWN
WHAT: In a secondary pass at figuring out where Warden Larius is and what his deal might be (see above), project members will work on intercepting messages or correspondence from the leaders of the smuggling group, since new recruits are unlikely to be taken deeply into the leaders’ confidence right away. Such interception can be done directly (if discreetly), or can be arranged by leveraging trustworthy contacts along trade or messaging routes who might be willing to help.
WHERE: Finding the smugglers is, again, part of the challenge, though we do have Larius’ last known location to build on.
WHEN: Harvestmere
WHO: 2-4 Corypheus’ History members. Depending on how you decide to approach it, relevant skills may include scouting, forgery, theft, diplomacy, networking, or some exciting combination of the above.
EAR TO THE GROUND
WHAT: While the Magisterium's library in Minrathous likely has some of the best information about Corypheus, it is obviously not accessible at the moment. What may be accessible, however, is notes from scholars who have previously seen books in the Magisterium’s library. Such reports might have actual information of use in a best-case scenario, but even if there are accounts that merely verify that such information exists, it may point future research in a fruitful direction.
WHERE: Can be done from Kirkwall, though if participants want to do fieldwork, they are welcome to do so.
WHEN: Harvestmere
WHO: 1-3 Corypheus’ History members or members of the Research division. Relevant skills include an ability to read a lot of very dry, scholarly writing; research skills, and ideally familiarity with more than one language to facilitate them; possibly the ability to write charming and/or persuasive letters to scholars or nobles known for their private libraries.
Please sign up by October 6 by replying to this comment with the form below. I’ll pick and contact you with more information ASAP. If the assignments are unclaimed by the cutoff date, contact me and we may be able to arrange something on a rolling basis.

ASSIGNMENT: From the Bottom Up, From the Top Down
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research, Corypheus' History & Other Powers
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: He's a Warden, and he knows a couple of things about red lyrium. He isn't the best actor in the world, but if he's allowed to act like a dumb slab of muscle or like basically himself-if-he-were-a-smuggler, he'd be okay. He's also, again, not the best at diplomacy or forgery, but he can keep up with people who are without ruining everything, probably.
OTHER NOTES: :D!
ASSIGNMENT
WHO: Alistair
HOW: An agent of Skyhold got a bead on Larius' last known location through interactions with the Carta, which should give Alistair and his team enough of a starting point for tracking the smugglers down. The smugglers, while reasonably wary, go through rank-and-file types quickly enough that they're usually looking for competent help, temporary or otherwise; getting work with them should be reasonably simple as long as no one blurts out pro-Inquisition sentiments or anything.
Amenable members of the smuggler organization who have been around for several years will be able to tell the group that Larius presented himself as a Grey Warden mage; some of them can confirm witnessed him doing magic firsthand. (Alistair, at least, may know that this is pretty weird, since Warden records indicate he was not at all a mage.) The team can also gather from those they talk to that Larius was aloof, standoffish, and cold. (One particularly voluble guy might go so far as "creepy.") More than general anti-Warden sentiment, there's a sense among those you talk to that while he gave them useful information, Larius was definitely unsettling. Newer recruits will say they've never met him. The question of "where is he now" gets nowhere.
OOC NOTES: Since the smugglers are getting red lyrium from the source to those who want it, you have some leeway in deciding where, geographically, you want to catch up to them (within reason). Since it's just Alistair assigned, he can grab up to 3 other people to help if he likes.

ASSIGNMENT: Ear to the Ground
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Diplomacy; Corypheus’ History (she decided she’s here now, hi)
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Lexie speaks and reads several languages, is familiar with the dry research of families and houses and trade etc, and has both lovely handwriting and rather specializes in buttering people up, very sweetly and gently blackmailing them, and otherwise getting people to do what she wants them to. Being part of the peerage means she’ll maybe have some ideas on who might have some relevant libraries or have a leg up on convincing at least Orlesians. Maybe a leg down on Fereldans. Eh.
OTHER NOTES: Filled with firey desire for vengeance
ASSIGNMENT
WHO: Lexie, Anders, Val
HOW: It's time for lots of reading with a side of persuasion and/or blackmail. Based on your guys' notes, it seems likely that your approach will include writing a lot of great letters to relevant scholars and maybe forcing a few nobles' hands.
Feel free to let me know if you have any strong ideas about what they should find that you want to talk over before filing the report. I am mainly envisioning a wishlist of Magesterium volumes the project will try to acquire in the future. (You don't have to make up book names, but if you'd like to, enjoy.) If they get lucky, they may also find some titles or information related to Dumat. The idea is that nothing they find this time out will, itself, be game changing, but hopefully they will identify some promising leads.
OOC NOTES: As the mods recently observed, feel free to hash out what would be most fun to thread and just do that!

ASSIGNMENT: From the Top Down, Ear to the Ground
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Diplomacy, Corypheus' History & Hostile Powers
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Would rather try to build contacts than intercept, but also will go along readily with whatever the group consensus is. Speaks Orlesian and Trade.
OTHER NOTES: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ASSIGNMENT
WHO: Isaac
HOW: It's up to Isaac whether he wants to work some contacts or actually go letter-intercepting himself. If the former (which sounds likely), he'll be able to tell agents that Larius was connecting the smugglers with the original source of red lyrium, and identify a few likely routes they're taking. If the latter, some of the letters are better guarded than others, but most should be vulnerable to either sufficient stealth or a well-planned snatch and grab.
Assuming they're able to intercept enough communication -- since this mission doesn't have built-in failure potential, feel free to assume that -- the team can find out the following: Larius hasn't been seen for several years, since shortly before Corypheus reappeared; since Larius left, they've been working with a Templar contact; and while Larius' information was always good, there is a definite sense of relief among the leaders over the fact that no one has to actually talk to him anymore. The team may also find some useful information about the red lyrium supply lines it would be worth handing over to Scouting after the letters have been thoroughly examined.
OOC NOTES: While this assignment was originally going to be closed to Corypheus' History project members, since it's just Isaac, feel free to recruit up to 3 other people of his choice to help. As always, pick the part you'd most like to thread and run with it.

ASSIGNMENT: Ear to the Ground, From the Bottom Up
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research; Corpsy History & Hostile Powers
SUITABILITY & APPROACH:
-Ear to the Ground: Can read a lot, researches a lot, familiar with Anders as well as Common, can write long letters that can be persuasive enough if someone else signs them.
-Ear to the Ground: Is loosely familiar with smuggling thanks to getting mages out of Kirkwall, can defend himself/keep allies up and going, is familiar with the Deep Roads.
OTHER NOTES: Do de do

ASSIGNMENT: Ear to the Ground
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research & Naval Presence
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Val has passing scholarly knowledge of a handful of languages. he hates reading dry scholarly articles but..... he can read dry scholarly articles and read them quickly. he is very good at writing charming persuasive letters to scholars and nobles and in fact has a lot of contacts within the scholarly world which would probably be helpful. a few noble contacts, too, esp in that cross-section of scholarly-nobles.
OTHER NOTES: ✨
