The world of Dragon Age is big and open and many of our players know at least as much about it as the mods. We hope that Fade Rift will be a collaborative effort where players feel free to contribute and to take ownership of the setting and of the game's direction. To that end, we strongly encourage player plots, quests, missions, adventures, and so on. We are also always open to ideas if players have something in mind but feel for some reason that they can't run a prospective plot themselves.

Plot suggestions can take two forms:

Player Plots: Plots that a player runs, which includes posting OOC sign-ups, posting logs and info, and GMing for other players as needed or desired. These plots can involve the plot-runner's character or not, and they can either be personal in nature ("let's go rescue my brother!") or relevant to the war effort and mot plot. Mod involvement will generally be to supply information to the player running the plot as necessary, signal boost, and otherwise provide support.
Plot Suggestions: If there's some aspect of Thedas you think we should explore or some conflict or plot element you want to see but don't want to run yourself, let us know! No promises, but we'll try.
Info Requests: If your character is looking into something—reading books, conducting experiments, writing to ask NPCs for information, etc.—that doesn't warrant a full plot request, let us know here and we'll tell you what they'll discover. Please keep in mind that these requests must be specific. "My character is reading about the Fade; what will they learn?" is too broad. "My character is researching previous instances of individuals physically entering the Fade; beyond those in canon, are there any in FR's universe I should know about?" is specific.

If you have an idea please fill out the appropriate form below and post it here. We'll get back to you as soon as we're able. Not every idea will be viable as written, or necessarily at all, but we will do our best to help find ways to fit the things players want to do in around setting constraints or behind-the-scenes plot considerations whenever we can. All comments are screened.

Player Plots

WHO: Which characters (if any) are definitely going to be involved?
HOW MANY: How many characters total do you envision this involving?
OPEN/CLOSED: Will this be open to sign-ups from any character in the game, or is it closed to particular group?
WHERE: Where do you plan for this to take place?
WHEN: When, ICly and OOCly, are you hoping this will run?
WHAT: Briefly—in a few sentences—what are characters going to go do? You don't have to give us details or explain the OOC plot mechanics. Just give us the general idea/elevator pitch. If we need more details, we'll follow up to ask you for them.

GOAL: What's your ultimate goal for this? To explore a particular area? Acquire a special object? Trigger some sort of character development? Highlight a particular aspect of the setting/theme? Get characters talking about X or Y? Again, you don't need to provide extensive details of everything you plan to happen, just give us a high-level overview of what you want to accomplish so that we know what's most important to you about it.

IMPACT & CONSEQUENCES: Will this have an impact on PCs other than those that sign up to participate, or on a large number of NPCs? Could it impact the standing of a particular group of PCs (i.e. changing local opinions of Rifters, or creating ill-will toward dwarves in Ansburg, etc.)? What impact do you foresee this having on the Inquisition as a whole? Is it something you think could impact the Inquisition's goals, reputation, or security? What (if any) IC consequences do you foresee for involved characters? Are there limits on the consequences you're willing to accept? If you've already discussed permission for this endeavor with the relevant IC leaders, please also mention that and let us know what they said (but it's not required that you have done so; it can also come after).

MOD INVOLVEMENT: What do you need from us to make this happen? 'Nothing' is an acceptable answer! Please note that as a general rule we won't be GMing or NPCing in player plots, but we can provide information, intel, etc. to you OOC.

If you need additional information in order to run your plot, please ask specific questions. We will no longer be answering general requests like 'let me know what they can learn about X'. These are difficult and very time-consuming for us to answer because they require us to guess what steps your characters would take to investigate what is usually a very broad subject before we can determine what they might learn about it. When asking for additional info/intel, please provide us with context about what your characters will be attempting, how they'll go about it, what theories you/they want to test, and some ideas about potential outcomes. You don't need to have every detail 100% fleshed out, but you do at the very least need to bring us specific ideas about how your character would try to learn the information that you want or what could happen as a result of the experiment you want to try.

As a final note, if you run a plot that pertains to the war effort/larger plot, please file a report using the form on

therookery and tagging the post with the relevant divisions and projects. This is to help everyone keep up with plot developments and is required to get AC bonus points for running a plot.

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

1. Our understanding of Justinia reintroducing the Dissonant Verses is that that was primarily a one-line throwaway explanation for those canticles being included in the fake copy of the Chant of Light in World of Thedas, rather than her actually introducing any of them into the canon again in a way that's otherwise reflected in the game lore. That would have been a more serious event. Additionally, if Leliana is chosen as Divine, she does actually canonically reintroduce the Canticle of Shartan to the formal canon after DAI—so Justinia couldn't have already done it—and it's a very controversial decision.

Since we know people have referenced the New Cumberland version IC, we're totally fine with the version of the Chant that includes the Dissonant Verses existing, but we would say it's more of an academic reference. Justinia was probably daringly liberal to permit its existence at all, but it doesn't reflect what's taught in the Chantry as the "true" Chant. No one is singing the Canticle of Shartan at services in the Grand Cathedral in Val Royeaux or anywhere else.

But, all of that established, Benedetta would be on record as opposing the publication of New Cumberland edition, and more specifically expressing concern that it would confuse the populace as to what the Chantry considered legitimate and opining that the Dissonant Verses, if they had to be published at all, should be published in a separate volume.

2. Without inventing specific NPCs, Clorentine's financial backers consist primarily of nobles and merchants whose main commonality is investment in the status quo and Orlesian stability/prosperity. A handful supported Gaspard in the War of the Lions, more supported Celene, and a sizable fraction avoided taking sides at all. It wouldn't be impossible to find corruption or ties to the enemy among them, but we'd leave the specifics of that up to players who wanted to do the discovering.

3. The two other most prominent Chantry Mothers in Ayesleigh are Mother Caesulena and Mother Dolce. Mother Caesulena is middle-aged and a first-generation convert to the Chant of Light and has the sort of fervor you'd expect from someone who believed in something enough to leave behind her parents' belief system. She takes pains to avoid giving anyone ammunition to say she's still tied to Rivaini traditions, but she did notably break her characteristic silence to condemn the Annulment at Dairsmuid. Mother Dolce has only recently been elevated from Sisterhood and is most known for her work with Tal-Vashoth—there are rumors that her siblings joined the Qun and disappeared—and vocal concern about the Qun's encroachment on Rivain.

You and anyone else can invent other NPCs relevant to Answers 2 and 3 if needed for plots, too—we're just offering these in case it's more helpful for brainstorming than a vacuum would be.
