Ideas & Requests (Defunct)

PLOT IDEAS & REQUESTS (DEFUNCT)

This page is no longer used. To submit a new request, go here.

The world of Dragon Age is big and open and many of our players know at least as much about it as the mods. We hope that Fade Rift will be a collaborative effort where players feel free to contribute and to take ownership of the setting and of the game's direction. To that end, we strongly encourage player plots, quests, missions, adventures, and so on. We are also always open to ideas if players have something in mind but feel for some reason that they can't run a prospective plot themselves.

Plot suggestions can take two forms:
  • Player Plots: Plots that a player runs, which includes posting OOC sign-ups, posting logs and info, and GMing for other players as needed or desired. These plots can involve the plot-runner's character or not, and they can either be personal in nature ("let's go rescue my brother!") or relevant to the war effort and mot plot. Mod involvement will generally be to supply information to the player running the plot as necessary, signal boost, and otherwise provide support.

  • Plot Suggestions: If there's some aspect of Thedas you think we should explore or some conflict or plot element you want to see but don't want to run yourself, let us know! No promises, but we'll try.

  • Info Requests: If your character is looking into something—reading books, conducting experiments, writing to ask NPCs for information, etc.—that doesn't warrant a full plot request, let us know here and we'll tell you what they'll discover. Please keep in mind that these requests must be specific. "My character is reading about the Fade; what will they learn?" is too broad. "My character is researching previous instances of individuals physically entering the Fade; beyond those in canon, are there any in FR's universe I should know about?" is specific.
If you have an idea please fill out the appropriate form below and post it here. We'll get back to you as soon as we're able. Not every idea will be viable as written, or necessarily at all, but we will do our best to help find ways to fit the things players want to do in around setting constraints or behind-the-scenes plot considerations whenever we can. All comments are screened.

Player Plots

Plot Suggestion

As a final note, if you run a plot that pertains to the war effort/larger plot, please file a report using the form on [community profile] therookery and tagging the post with the relevant divisions and projects. This is to help everyone keep up with plot developments and is required to get AC bonus points for running a plot.

Since this report, Pel will try scrying with the Lights of Arlathan and the retrieved eluvian shards to confirm whether the lines on the map indicate the locations of eluvians--either where they cross each other on the map, or at the ends of the lines.

MS is going to be all over the actual haunting since that's p much what he does. Obviously he's going to be going over legit anything that seems suspicious, but he tends to look for odd behaviours in spirits - for example, what people or objects to they pay particular attention to? Are there other individuals in the house that the spirit(s) are particularly malicious to? Or the opposite - are they making an effort to protect someone? Are there rooms that are locked/sealed that may hold significance? I'm assuming the haunted house is abandoned and kind of shabby - is there anything that looks as though it's been cared for or out of place? He'll be setting up the scales to track the spirit(s) movement - will there be rooms they seem particularly attached to? (idk I'm trying to cover all the bases with what he'd generally pay attention to and look for)

Would they find anything out by comparing it to a map of modern Thedas? And geographic things, any specific places the lines cross at/near?

So, I intend to have Korrin seek a certain Tranquil out to research the possibility of adapting cleansing runes to work as armor runes as well, as a protection against red lyrium. Is that a possibility?

BERENIKE

[personal profile] exequy 2018-05-01 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Since they have Berenike, one of the enraged undead from the Necropolis, and are gonna be trying to figure out what's wrong with her:

  • What would Kostos (who can read spirit minds etc.) be able to pick up from her, either in terms of memories of The Event or the current state of the spirit possessing her?

  • Would putting a new wisp into the corpse cause the new wisp to go bad as well? Similar vein, would removing the wisp from her entirely/binding it into something else cause the original wisp to chill out? (Basically looking for whether the problem is with the corpse or with the spirit, if not both.)
  • justice_is_blond: (Actually let's go with that idea)

So I have two items to ask about here:

    1) Fiona's amulet from Jonas' corpse - did it help him fight off the Blight at all? Can whatever enchantments are on it be figured out and possibly duplicated?

    2) The blade found in Weisshaupt during the coup - what relevance does it have in regard to the Blight? If it's enchanted, can it also be figured out and perhaps duplicated?

    ENTERING A RIFT

    [personal profile] limier 2018-06-22 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
If someone got a ladder or jumped into the air or otherwise tried to stick a limb and/or their whole body into a Rift, what would happen?

  • Would the results be any different if they had an anchor shard?
  • If they were a Rifter?

Relatedly: Is it okay to use small Rift closures in unimportant locations for solo logs, or would you prefer these be group affairs?

If a character digs into non-Inq apostates in Kirkwall, what generally will they find?

Not like "please give me a list of NPCs and names" but like "there are zero apostates in Kirkwall" or "they're crawling out of the walls" or "there are one or two and they won't be pleased to see you", etc.

What, if anything, can/should spirit mediums pick up on with regard to rifters?

If it helps, they’re able to sense the presence of spirits, communicate with them better than most people, read their minds, etc. They also hear lyrium’s song very loudly when exposed to it, but not processed lyrium—like they don’t hear humming from Templars or anything like that. Obviously to whatever extent rifters are spirits, reading their minds and being able to tell them what to do would be OP, so I’m mainly wondering if there’s a faint spirit sense tingling-in-the-back-of-your-neck thing going on or not.

    Post-Pascal questions:

  • Theological papers, recorded sermons, or rumour about which translation of the Chant Revered Mother Benedetta of Rialto favours? Has she said anything accessible about the Dissonant Verses (with focus to Justinia reinserting the Canticle of Shartan)?

  • Grand Cleric Clorentine of Montsimmard's financial backers: Are there any major known players, and any rumours of their involvement in the Game more specific than 'yes it's Orlais they probably do stuff'?

  • Who are the clergy of public note in Ayseleigh, other than Grand Cleric Elise?

    Hello! A follow-up:

  • What happens if people with anchors try to open a rift while they're physically in the Fade? Does it just open back onto reality?

Jumping off Kostos's findings about Berenike's body being the source of her undead anger problem, Ilias and Sidony are taking a closer look at the mummy while the spirit is temporarily housed elsewhere. They'd be dissecting the body as thoroughly as is feasible given they do need to put her back together again afterward.

Specifically, Ilias is looking for irregularities with previous repair work, signs of anything having been done to the body that isn't part of the mummification process as he knows it, or subtler changes to the corpse (discoloration, etc.) that might indicate it's been exposed to something unusual. Would that kind of investigation turn up anything suspicious?

So Beleth made this crystal post asking people for suggestions on how to hide anchors on hands, and will be testing (most of) the ideas that were given. This includes:

  • Wearing makeup thick enough to cover the mark, using makeup setting powder to make sure it doesn't easily smear off (if it exists in thedas? i mean if winged eyeliner and lip liner exists i would think that the stuff to set it would as well).

  • Wrapping hands with bandages.
This is less of a 'would this work' and more of a 'would this get too obvious as long as they try not to have too many people doing it'.

  • Invisible gloves.
Jester has been tasked with attempting to locate this (because Beleth doesn't want to waste time on it), and I think can be assumed doesn't actually exist, BUT JUST IN CASE.

  • A glove modified to resemble a human hand.
Wysteria has been tasked with attempting to commission this from a leatherworker (because like with above Beleth is pretty sure it's nonsense).

  • A glove modified to resemble a wooden prosthetic.
Beleth has more faith in this idea, so she'll be commissioning attempts from several woodworkers to see who can best create this, and having several rifters test it through a trial period.

  • Sticking a patch over the anchor, both to resemble a scar, or a tattoo.
Bonus points to consider: sticking a fake tattoo of a ship anchor over the fade anchor.

  • Jewelry that covers the hand.
Like so but with a thicker make that could actually hide an anchor. Note: this would probably only be used for occasions when people need to look fancy, IE sneaking into a ball.

  • Attempt to dye the back of the hand with ink.
Either with a green that would closely match the color of the anchor, or something darker that would hide it entirely. Similar to the patch, but applying the ink directly to the skin.

  • Some kind of enchantment that could hide the hand??
I (and Beleth) assume that if it were possible, it would already be done, but she'll ask around the mages in the Gallows anyway.

  • Have everyone in the Inquisition wear gloves so it's less suspicious.
On one hand, this wouldn't really do much for clandestine missions. On the other hand, all of the armor the Inquisition wears in DA:I already has gloves in it, so. Not a stretch. Though I guess it'd also be tricky to make everyone have to wear gloves. I'm not even sure how Beleth would test this. BUT here it is anyway, just in case anything useful can be done with it.

SORRY ABOUT ALL OF THIS but I didn't want to assume anything and it'd be cool to have more options besides 'wear gloves and pray you don't need to remove them'.

    1) Does the Magisterial Senate look like it's going to turn toward Corypheus (or has it already, or has most of it, etc)?
1a) What happens to the Magisters who are vocally against him?
    1b) How about non-Magisters?
1c) How mad is the general populace?

    2) Has trade been choked off/what is that doing to the region's economy, among both the wealthy and the poorer classes?

    3) Are things generally limited to Minrathous, or have they begun to spread outward?

    thanks I love u xo

What do we suppose happens to fade-touched animals after the rift is dealt with? Do they remain Fade-touched, or do they revert to normal once the source of their contamination is cut off? Example: would the ice-breathing rats that Darras and Athessa are about to deal with continue breathing ice after the rift is dealt with, and thus be able to be used for makeshift air conditioning at the Gallows?
