War Table (Defunct)

WAR TABLE (DEFUNCT)

This is a defunct version of this page. For the new version, please go back to the game navigation and choose the War Table link.

Thedas is a big world with a lot to do, and the war against Corypheus has about a hundred fronts, so between major mod events, plot progression takes the form of player plots and plots that originate from divisions and projects. These smaller plots can be anything from negotiating agreements with foreign dignitaries to infiltrating enemy operations to escorting shipments of pedigree nugs through a haunted forest as a favor to an ally. Some of them will directly influence the overarching mod plot; others may just be fun.

Players whose characters lead the divisions and projects IC facilitate plot efforts by setting the agenda for each group's work—they identify the main objectives the team will be focused on and sometimes develop specific plot assignments to accomplish the group's goals.

CLICK HERE FOR THE CURRENT PLOT CYCLE.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
  1. Read! The divisions and each project have separate comments below explaining what they'll be working on over the coming months. Read up on the ones your characters belong to and think about how they'd contribute. (If your character hasn't joined any division or project, you can join a division by updating your character's info on the taken list or join a project by filling out the form on the corresponding project page.)

  2. Contribute! Use the provided forms to document the ways your character will be contributing to the objectives—or if there's something else they intend to pursue within the project's scope that isn't covered by those objectives. These can be simple things that will occur in the background of your other RP, like "John is going to research dwarven etiquette to assist the team going to Orzammar," or they can be bigger things that warrant a player plot, like "John is going to assassinate King Bhelen." IC leaders will reply to let you know if their characters wouldn't approve of what yours are doing or to help you if you need help. (You can also reply to other players' comments if you have something to add or suggest, but we recommend making separate OOC posts or using the CR meme for pure brainstorming sessions.)

  3. RP! If your characters are doing background work, like research or the types of mini-plots we specify don't need plot requests, you can get straight to it (or submit an info request if needed). If your characters are doing something that does warrant a plot request, submit one, and then play it out after we've gotten back to you.

  4. File a report with the appropriate project or division after a significant plot has been completed. You don't need to do these for research or the kinds of minor plots that don't require plot requests. But reports allow everyone to keep up what's going on in the game—because there is usually a lot—and respond to, reward, or build on your character's efforts in the future. If you negotiate a treaty but don't file a report about it, we'll generally assume that it hasn't happened. And remember that folks who run player plots get bonus AC reward points once a report is filed!

If you have your own ideas for plots pertinent to divisions or projects outside those covered by objectives, or for personal plots that don't fit into any of these boxes at all, you're always welcome to separately submit player plot requests! You can also donate ideas directly to IC leaders or other players if you have plot ideas but would rather not run them yourself. And if you want to get involved in running a project, check the leadership roles list for vacancies in division or project leadership slots.

WHAT: The Black Divine

WHO: Yseult

WHEN: You can set it IC whenever you want! OOC, try to have a report done by the end of November.

HOW: Yseult and a team of her choosing will visit three relatively accessible Tevinter cities, not yet overtaken by the Venatori or decided in their allegiance, with a particular focus on attempting to acquire information about the Black Divine, Urian Nahalias, by visiting—openly or not—three Grand Clerics known to have ties to him.

In Marothius (for which we rolled a 28 out of the required 25/100 for success), the Grand Cleric will be outwardly friendly and willing to talk. He's a very old man, amiable and frank because he's going to die soon anyway and he'd rather (he'll be happy to explain) be assassinated than die attempting to shit. He'll also be happy to explain that, while he knew Nahalias well when he was a boy—complete with adorable anecdotes about his precocious tendency to cause trouble and then evade any punishment—he has not had direct contact in years and does not know what mind he may be in now. His personal opinion will be that Nahalias must be aware that no one, even Corypheus, can restore what Tevinter has lost, and in that case surely he won't genuinely support him. While he might have had more anecdotes and information to provide, the visit will be cut short by the arrival in the Chantry of a suspiciously watchful pack of well-dressed men.

In Perivantium (for which we rolled a 68 out of the required 50), the Grand Cleric will be absent, and his underlings will be vague and wary of talking to anyone, but also not interested in murdering them or turning them in. They will overall seem to believe they're being watched, essentially, wherever their personal sympathies lie. One of them will provide some subtle and plausibly deniable assistance by indicating where to look for more information—maybe by talking about making sure a particular door is locked when he knows he's being listened to, maybe by yawning and pointing while he stretches his arms, however you want to handle that—but acquiring it will require a late-night break-in in the opulent and never entirely empty Imperial Chantry.

Once that has been pulled off—successfully, but not too easily—the team will be able to acquire correspondence sent to the Grand Cleric from the Black Divine. All of it will be encoded, but also immediately decipherable, due to some work already done by the project. The correspondence will show that the Black Divine has been soliciting his subordinates for details, numbers, and their personal opinions on the military strengths of their respective cities, asking for news on how their local leaders are responding to the coup, and otherwise soliciting buckets of information. The last piece of correspondence will be an order to report to Minrathous.

In Carastes (for which we rolled a 15 out of the required 75, whoops), the team will barely have barely arrived before the Grand Cleric and other clergy at the Chantry will turn on them and make a very good attempt at barring their escape from the building pending the arrival of the same watchful men from Marothius. A keen eye might notice a red crystal affixed to one wall in an office, though it will look like a decoration rather than anything very important. (Several of those involved will be mages, but not all.) You can play the evasion and escape scene of your dreams on the way out! But the only real information that will be acquired is that Carastes' Grand Cleric is on Corypheus' side—which, coupled with the Grand Cleric's purportedly close relationship with the Black Divine, may be particularly worrisome in that respect.

OOC NOTES: Yseult can bring up to three other people of her choice along with her. If anyone wants to go off-script or investigate something other than the Chantries, they'll need to put in separate info or plot requests!
