War Table (Defunct)

WAR TABLE (DEFUNCT)

This is a defunct version of this page. For the new version, please go back to the game navigation and choose the War Table link.

Thedas is a big world with a lot to do, and the war against Corypheus has about a hundred fronts, so between major mod events, plot progression takes the form of player plots and plots that originate from divisions and projects. These smaller plots can be anything from negotiating agreements with foreign dignitaries to infiltrating enemy operations to escorting shipments of pedigree nugs through a haunted forest as a favor to an ally. Some of them will directly influence the overarching mod plot; others may just be fun.

Players whose characters lead the divisions and projects IC facilitate plot efforts by setting the agenda for each group's work—they identify the main objectives the team will be focused on and sometimes develop specific plot assignments to accomplish the group's goals.

CLICK HERE FOR THE CURRENT PLOT CYCLE.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
  1. Read! The divisions and each project have separate comments below explaining what they'll be working on over the coming months. Read up on the ones your characters belong to and think about how they'd contribute. (If your character hasn't joined any division or project, you can join a division by updating your character's info on the taken list or join a project by filling out the form on the corresponding project page.)

  2. Contribute! Use the provided forms to document the ways your character will be contributing to the objectives—or if there's something else they intend to pursue within the project's scope that isn't covered by those objectives. These can be simple things that will occur in the background of your other RP, like "John is going to research dwarven etiquette to assist the team going to Orzammar," or they can be bigger things that warrant a player plot, like "John is going to assassinate King Bhelen." IC leaders will reply to let you know if their characters wouldn't approve of what yours are doing or to help you if you need help. (You can also reply to other players' comments if you have something to add or suggest, but we recommend making separate OOC posts or using the CR meme for pure brainstorming sessions.)

  3. RP! If your characters are doing background work, like research or the types of mini-plots we specify don't need plot requests, you can get straight to it (or submit an info request if needed). If your characters are doing something that does warrant a plot request, submit one, and then play it out after we've gotten back to you.

  4. File a report with the appropriate project or division after a significant plot has been completed. You don't need to do these for research or the kinds of minor plots that don't require plot requests. But reports allow everyone to keep up what's going on in the game—because there is usually a lot—and respond to, reward, or build on your character's efforts in the future. If you negotiate a treaty but don't file a report about it, we'll generally assume that it hasn't happened. And remember that folks who run player plots get bonus AC reward points once a report is filed!

If you have your own ideas for plots pertinent to divisions or projects outside those covered by objectives, or for personal plots that don't fit into any of these boxes at all, you're always welcome to separately submit player plot requests! You can also donate ideas directly to IC leaders or other players if you have plot ideas but would rather not run them yourself. And if you want to get involved in running a project, check the leadership roles list for vacancies in division or project leadership slots.

RESEARCH

[personal profile] rowancrowned 2018-10-02 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
FRIENDS IN SAINTED PLACES
open to: Research members, capped at five people.

The ruling family of Ghislain, the de Ghislains, have a large stake in the city and surrounding countryside remaining unmolested by Corypheus' forces. While the current Duke, Bastien de Ghislain, remains incapacitated by illness, his son Laurent, a devout Andrastian, does most of the day to day work. He has requested that the Inquisition make an inventory of all the various artifacts in his possession, just in case, in return for boarding at the family estate and the loan of several tomes to the Inquisition.

Also of note is Laurent's aunt, the Grand Cleric Marcelline, who is rumored to have more than a few fingers in the selection for the next Divine. She will also be in residence at the estate. Discovering her current leanings and encouraging her sympathy for the Inquisition is highly encouraged.

RIFTCON 9:44
open to: Research members and characters either with a) an academic past or b) ties to Markham or the Free Marches, capped at five people.

The University of Markham is about to host a gathering in protest of the Chantry's recently issued edict that Rifters are not demons. Protesting the edict on the ground that a Divine did not make the ruling, the academics are doing what academics do best, which is getting a bunch of prominent scholars to write thinkpieces and deliver lectures during a gathering at the university. Like-minded clerics and scholars will be attending the event.

Those participating in this mission will decide how best to handle the news, and if that includes attending, will be firmly away from the events in Orlais, safe and sound.

TRAP MAKING, PT. 1

open to: all members of the Inquisition, no cap.

Experiment and improve upon current trap designs, and decide where they ought to be placed to most inconvenience Corypheus' oncoming army. Possibly test them on yourself and or friends, to nonlethal effect, and then scatter them through the countryside.

Participants may also choose to go a bit further in making the countryside inhospitable, such as poisoning water sources etc.

ON THEIR STOMACH
open to: all members of the Inquisition, no cap.

The wilds of Orlais are filled with delicious, wild-growing treats and snacks that could be used to supplement the diet and medical supplies of an army on the move, even if half of that army doesn't eat because they've been turned into Red Lyrium rock candy do not lick. However, most of these plants have les faux amis, such as the poisonous-in-high-doses and diarrhea-in-low-doses cousin of the regular delicious chestnut, the horse chestnut. And who can forget that one plant that looks a lot like elfroot but actually causes a severe rash and bleeding from the nose and mouth? Answer: not you, once you've experienced it!

Those participating in this mission will be dispatched into the wilds surrounding Ghislain armed with baskets and plant-identifying books. Your orders are to strip the countryside of all the useful plants, both medicinal and edible, and leave their annoying, poisonous cousins for Corypheus' forces.

They may also choose to note the locations of farms and graineries in the area to be set to the torch before the assault.

SECRETS SECRETS ARE NO FUN
open to: all members of the Inquisition, capped at five people.

Intercepted Venatori communications have revealed their interest in a particular area in Northern Orlais. Cross-referencing the map with some earlier ones in the Inquisition's position have revealed that the location is rumored to have a shrine to one of the Old Gods of the Imperium, meaning that it's probably something Corypheus and his remaining general, Calpernia, care about, which means that the Inquisition cares about it too. A team is needed to stealthily infiltrate the area and report back with further intelligence to see if infiltration or out-right assault is possible before the advance of Corypheus' forces.

*** REPORTS FOR ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE DUE BY NOVEMBER 10th, SIGN-UPS CLOSE OCTOBER 10th.

The responsibility of turning in the report is on the leader of the mission. If you are not comfortable with this responsibility (remember, no report means automatic failure of the assignment) please indicate as much in the 'other notes' section.

CHARACTER: Helena
ASSIGNMENT: Secrets Secrets Are No Fun
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Scouting
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Stealthy and alarming, very stabby, very death
OTHER NOTES: :]b

What: Secrets Secrets Are No Fun
Who: Freddie (lead), Helena, Anders
How: Out of a difficulty level of 20/100, the group rolled a 31.

Upon arrival to the area indicated on the map, the group will indeed find a shrine to Dumat. The group will narrowly avoid being found by a group of Venatori, who will not be able to escape the suspicion that they are being watched, and will torch their campsite before fleeing back to the general mass of the incoming force. They will let slip that they intend to return to the area as soon as possible, and en masse.

The group will have a choice: return to the Inquisition, with plenty of a head start on the Venatori, or investigate the shrine, and possibly risk encountering Venatori on their return trip.

Please let me know the group's decision as soon as possible.

CHARACTER: Morrigan
ASSIGNMENT: Friends In Sainted Places
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research; Elven Artifacts
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Morrigan tends to thumb her nose at how Orlesians get things done and will care mostly about what the mission needs to be done but she does know the rules of the game (and The Game) to navigate it, circumvent it and flout it. It'd really depend who else was going what route she'd take but has a lot of knowledge of Stuff and Things and alarmingly witchy as required.
OTHER NOTES: Knows and is known by Orlesian nobility, could be a hindrance here given her reputation

What: Friends in Sainted Places
Who: Morrigan (lead), Etienne, Freddie
How: Out of a difficulty level of 20/100, the group rolled a 57.

Lord Laurent de Ghislain, due to his family's general acceptance of mages (thanks, Vivienne!), will be very cordial to Morrigan, though her association with Celene will slightly color the initial meeting. Focusing on her scholarly knowledge will allow him to warm up, and Etienne's familiarity with Orlesian Ladies of a Certain Age will charm Grand Cleric Marcelline at a family dinner towards the end of their stay, and while she will not state anything in particular about the upcoming vote, she will make a few positive comments about the Inquisition. Both Laurent and Marcelline will have absolutely no problem with Freddie, given her background and relationship with the University, and will make polite overtures about making an order for wine.

All in all, their time at the de Ghislain estate will go smoothly, allowing them to neatly catalogue the estate's collection of various artifacts and books. However, on the final day, while packing up the books the family has agreed to loan to the Inquisition, one of them will do or say something that strikes Laurent as odd, and he will ask if there is anything in particular that will have made this cataloguing potentially relevant.

Whether the team chooses to reveal the upcoming assault is up to you, but your choice should be made soonish so that I can let you know what consequences that would have for the end of their visit. Given that this will possibly affect the outcome of the larger fight, the report for the whole mission should be turned in by November 10th.

CHARACTER: Solas
ASSIGNMENT: Riftcob.
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research, Elven Artefacts
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: The Eminent Scholar on Rifts and the Veil, actually. Academic, clever, sly and knowledgable. Will be able to either go the scholar route or the ‘fake elven servant’ route to get information and argue. Will be particularly vicious if necessary, verbally.
OTHER NOTES: :)

[personal profile] rowancrowned 2018-10-12 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)

What: Riftcon 9:44
Who: Solas (lead), Christine, Wysteria
How: Out of a difficulty level of 60/100, the group rolled an 86.

The group's official instructions will be not to make waves, and to focus on persuading the regular members of the University as opposed to those lecturing. Rather than engaging in active debate, the Inquisition will have secured time for Solas to lecture on the theory of the Rifts, while Christine will discuss what to do when you encounter red lyrium deposits. Wysteria's job is mostly to sit there and look non-threatening, as well as answer general questions about her experience with the Inquisition and closing rifts. While this will be to middling effect, a chance meeting with some engineering-type students where she's able to engage them as equals regarding a problem they're solving will be much more effective as showing her to be not a spirit/demon.

While none of them will manage to convince any hard-liners of the people-ness of rifters, the utter inoffensiveness of the speakers and their attempts to teach and not lecture will leave most of the undecided students with general warm fuzzies about the Inquisition, if not rifters, and some of the professors. Several will approach Solas and Christine after, with requests to help them via correspondence on both rift related problems and red lyrium removal.

(Wysteria's new friends will take her out for drinks on the last night.)

CHARACTER: Val de Foncé
ASSIGNMENT: TRAP MAKING
DIVISION & PROJECTS: Research and Naval Presence
SUITABILITY & APPROACH: for suitability, Val is a demolitions and siege expert, and he's studied battlefields and historic battle in great depth. he'd be happy to provide copies of his many scholarly works to support his inclusion in this assignment. he's also Orlesian so like, he can fit in fine (sort of). his approach will be excitable and hopefully inspirational. he has a lot of designs of his own, as well as some more traditional designs for traps.

What: Trap Making, Pt. 1

How: Out of a difficulty level of 20/100, he rolled a 39.

Alas, Val will not reinvent the snare when it comes to trap-making. However, he will manage to miniaturize one trap of your choice, which is great, because the Inquisition is trying for stealth here. The good news is that this makes it relatively easy for Alexandra's terrifying minions to place them, but the bad news is that it only has a small area of effect, making it useful for taking out a single scout rather than a large number of people.

He will also accidentally set his fake mustache on fire at some point.

SUITABILITY & APPROACH: Alex is more a lover than a fighter, but she can hold her own in a brawl if there should be an ambush. In terms of suitability, despite having a rather abrasive personality, Alex can work well with others and has an interest in herbs/plants from a medical perspective and is just generally Good In The Wilderness (thanks to being a feral child and Ranger).

What: On Their Stomach
Who: Alexandra (lead)
How: Out of a difficulty level of 10/100, she rolled a 91.

Upon arrival in Ghislain, Alexandra will be taken to the side and have the boundaries of the mission explained to her by Thranduil. Given the thin spread of both Skyhold and Kirkwall personel, Alexandra will be given charge of about fifteen bright-eyed Inquisition recruits, freshly joined and briefly trained in Skyhold. These scouts will have never seen a rifter before, and will pepper Alexandra with questions about her previous life, Kirkwall, koalas, etc. Alexandra will pass that charisma check hard and will have a tiny army of over-eager recruits who will gladly help her with their first ever Inquisition mission, and together they will utterly strip the countryside of medicinal plants, and nearly all of the actually edible nuts, roots, and berries. However, due to Val's meager success in his trap-making quest, they will only succeed at placing a few dozen traps, focused on mainly disabling lone scouts rather than groups of soldiers.

Alexandra will also have the choice of poisoning water sources and setting '''mysterious'''' fires, which I need to hear back on you regarding soon-ish, so I can determine her success/failure on that front. Given that this will possibly affect the outcome of the larger fight, the report for the whole mission should be turned in by November 10th.
