War Table (Defunct)

WAR TABLE (DEFUNCT)

This is a defunct version of this page. For the new version, please go back to the game navigation and choose the War Table link.

Thedas is a big world with a lot to do, and the war against Corypheus has about a hundred fronts, so between major mod events, plot progression takes the form of player plots and plots that originate from divisions and projects. These smaller plots can be anything from negotiating agreements with foreign dignitaries to infiltrating enemy operations to escorting shipments of pedigree nugs through a haunted forest as a favor to an ally. Some of them will directly influence the overarching mod plot; others may just be fun.

Players whose characters lead the divisions and projects IC facilitate plot efforts by setting the agenda for each group's work—they identify the main objectives the team will be focused on and sometimes develop specific plot assignments to accomplish the group's goals.

CLICK HERE FOR THE CURRENT PLOT CYCLE.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
  1. Read! The divisions and each project have separate comments below explaining what they'll be working on over the coming months. Read up on the ones your characters belong to and think about how they'd contribute. (If your character hasn't joined any division or project, you can join a division by updating your character's info on the taken list or join a project by filling out the form on the corresponding project page.)

  2. Contribute! Use the provided forms to document the ways your character will be contributing to the objectives—or if there's something else they intend to pursue within the project's scope that isn't covered by those objectives. These can be simple things that will occur in the background of your other RP, like "John is going to research dwarven etiquette to assist the team going to Orzammar," or they can be bigger things that warrant a player plot, like "John is going to assassinate King Bhelen." IC leaders will reply to let you know if their characters wouldn't approve of what yours are doing or to help you if you need help. (You can also reply to other players' comments if you have something to add or suggest, but we recommend making separate OOC posts or using the CR meme for pure brainstorming sessions.)

  3. RP! If your characters are doing background work, like research or the types of mini-plots we specify don't need plot requests, you can get straight to it (or submit an info request if needed). If your characters are doing something that does warrant a plot request, submit one, and then play it out after we've gotten back to you.

  4. File a report with the appropriate project or division after a significant plot has been completed. You don't need to do these for research or the kinds of minor plots that don't require plot requests. But reports allow everyone to keep up what's going on in the game—because there is usually a lot—and respond to, reward, or build on your character's efforts in the future. If you negotiate a treaty but don't file a report about it, we'll generally assume that it hasn't happened. And remember that folks who run player plots get bonus AC reward points once a report is filed!

If you have your own ideas for plots pertinent to divisions or projects outside those covered by objectives, or for personal plots that don't fit into any of these boxes at all, you're always welcome to separately submit player plot requests! You can also donate ideas directly to IC leaders or other players if you have plot ideas but would rather not run them yourself. And if you want to get involved in running a project, check the leadership roles list for vacancies in division or project leadership slots.

HARVESTMERE MISSION

[personal profile] frdivisions 2018-10-11 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Your character has been assigned to DANGEROUS GAME.

The characters assigned to this task are: Marcoulf, Kylo Ren, and Anna. You're welcome to say they volunteered for this, or were ordered to it as part of their Inquisition duties.

  • Marcoulf will be given lead.
  • You can bring up to three more characters if you’d like. Coupe is also available to pad out the numbers, just let me know within the next few days.
  • Coordinate OOC to file a single report on the Forces Page by November 10th. Not filing a report will result in an automatic critical failure.
  • You don’t have to thread the whole thing, just RP about it in some capacity — ex: Logs before or after the mission, network threads, etc.

  • SUMMARY:

Upon arriving in Velun, the party will be received graciously — if like any other expensive mercenaries — by the Comte’s staff. Chantral isn't currently in residence (there are token apologies), though it can be learned that he typically winters in the estate.

They’ll be briefed on the basics: Bandits have taken up in the Comte’s pristine, protected woodlands. In addition to illegally hunting his game, they’ve started fires, robbed travelers, and harassed the nearby town. This is all true, and speaking with the mostly human servants and villagers will confirm as much. However, the Comte has not mobilized his personal guard, or taken other measures to stop the attacks. This is a political move.

Almost two years ago, Celene regained her throne in the Orlesian Civil War, and named the elf Briala the Marquise of the Dales, alongside the promise of elven reforms. These have not been taken in good faith, and the destruction of some city Alienages has forced elves into the countryside, where resources have already grown more scarce.

If the party tracks down the bandits, they'll find a group of these elven refugees. All are adults, with the exception of an elderly couple and their young elf-blooded grandchildren. Some may be willing to talk, but all will be distrustful of three armed humans, and under no illusions about what they've been sent for. Unless the party are very careful and persuasive, this ends in a fight. Though they're outnumbered by the elves, none of the group have received formal training, and their weapons are improvised or stolen.

Clearing the bandits represents a symbolic blow to Celene, who requires Velun to feed the Orlesian army. Refusing to cooperate will strain Orlais' ability to the supply the front, and could cost the Inquisition allies.

If characters propose a third solution, please contact me with it here so that I can consider (and roll for, if need be) its success. A few valuables can be recovered from the campsite, and returned to either the village, the Comte, or the Inquisition.

  • No character will be given lead.
  • You can bring up to three more characters if you’d like. Coupe is also available to pad out the numbers, just let me know within the next few days.

  • You don’t have to thread the whole thing, just RP about it in some capacity — ex: Logs before or after the mission, network threads, etc.

  • SUMMARY:

Upon arriving at the front, Alexandra and Six will find that Dame Ines has died within the past day, seemingly of poison. The atmosphere is tense, and as foreigners, the party will be tersely-received.

Preparations to burn the body are already underway, so if Alex wants to examine it she’ll need to do some very fast talking — the bulk of the soldiers are Andrastian, and those that aren’t still have strong feelings against corpses, especially this close to the Nevarran border. There will be resistance, and likely some outrage at any suggestion of post-mortem incisions.

If she does succeed, Alex will find an excess of blood in the stomach and esophagus, with eroded mucous membranes and blackened tissue. This seems to support poisoning, though it will be impossible to correlate to any that Alex might be familiar with.

Dame Ines was not well-liked. There are a few suspects, and none have an alibi:

Ines’ two lieutenants — one a childhood friend (and amateur herbologist), the other her former fiancee (and amateur naturalist). While both claim grief for her death, they’re more interested in bickering over the future of the company. Each believes they ought to have been promoted over Ines, who was less experienced. They also each believe that the other poisoned her and tried to frame them for it. They claim the manner of death as proof. After all, if they'd actually killed her, why use the byproduct of their specific hobbies, instead of waiting for the cover of battle?

The bulk of the troops are conscripts, many of whom have been previously pressed into service. There are rumblings of anti-Imperial sentiment. Investigation will reveal a former Freeman among the ranks, who once discovered will passionately describe the abuses of the Chevaliers upon the peasantry. He waited on Ines' meetings directly, and had access to her personal effects. If reported, he'll be hanged.

An Ander spy has infiltrated the company as a cook. She's described as 'warm' and 'kind' by the soldiers, who will take poorly to any suspicion of her. Encoded correspondence can be found among her personal effects, describing visitors to the camp. If reported, she'll be hanged. If she catches on to the party first, she'll try to separate and pick them off individually.

You rolled an 18 out of 100, so regardless of the party's choices or suspect, the situation will deteriorate badly — with a group of soldiers deserting into the countryside, and the remaining troops split between loyalties to their lieutenants.

The latter will kick the party out, claiming that the Inquisition’s presence is divisive. They refuse to discuss reinforcing Ghislain until they can regain control of the lines. It’s unclear whether they can do so before the Anders notice, and take advantage of the disarray.

  • SUMMARY:

Located a safe distance outside the city, the Ghislain Circle has been largely abandoned since the Rebellion.

More heavily-protected than most Orlesian Circles, the tower is best described as ‘sort of depressing’. You could add ‘remarkably secure’: Beyond the broken gates, its tiny windows are barred, the doors are thick and bolted, and some locks can only be opened through the manipulation of lyrium.

This has meant comparatively little looting, though there are signs indicating others have tried. Circles are known for their wealth, and there remains an assortment of books, equipment, and mundane goods that might be given to the Inquisition, to the Chantry, or to Duke Bastien.

(There are also scattered personal effects, and a few familiar names scratched into walls.)

Despite cosmetic damage and neglect, the fortress is an alluring target. It can be trapped, torn down, filled with soldiers or refugees, or anything else you can think up. It's structurally sound... with the exception of one hallway that's crumbled from beneath. A misstep will send the floor caving in beneath the party. Characters will take a long fall into rubble, and into the remains of Ghislain’s dungeons.

These are a little more depressing, being frigid and wet. There's no light source beyond that which the characters bring with them. The cells are sturdy, runed, and significantly dampen magical and rifteD abilities. An arcane horror remains locked in one, where the mage whose corpse it possessed was left behind. If the party chooses to dispatch it, they must first free it from the cell — however, they can also choose to leave it in its cage, where it cannot reach or harm them.

Though the Circle's depths extend underground, many tunnels have been artificially filled, or collapsed by time. Following one will eventually lead to a hidden staircase, up and back into the Circle proper.

You rolled a 43 out of 100, so the efforts do not attract enemy attention. Woohoo! Your character is free to injure themselves as much or little on the fall as you’d like.

Your character has been assigned to NOTHING QUNPARES 2 U
You're welcome to say they volunteered for this, or were ordered to do it as part of their Inquisition duties.
  • No character will be given lead.
  • You can bring up to two more characters if you’d like. The mission guideline was two to three characters, but if you’d like Araceli to do a solo mission then that’s fine.
  • If you should choose to bring more characters, coordinate ooc to file a single report on the Diplomacy page by November 10th. Not filing a report will result in an automatic critical failure.
  • You don’t have to thread the whole thing, just RP about it in some capacity — ex: Logs before or after the mission, network threads, etc.
  • I am available for collaboration and brainstorming if you need any further assistance.

  • SUMMARY:
Araceli will receive directions to attend an inn in Treviso called The Dancing Moonlight Inn, overlooking the bay. Here she has accommodation, and there will be a letter awaiting her, an invitation to dinner with de Talaveras to discuss matters, and a bouquet of lilies that are the colour of the sunset, with a few white flowers amongst them. These flowers, some say, are symbolic of wealth, fortune, and friendship.

The orders for the mission are to strengthen the diplomatic relationship with the Qunari by fulfilling their request for a favour and having Armat released by the de Talaveras, but there is a choice.

It will be possible for Araceli to secure a meeting with Armat, by being very persuasive and charming towards Gennaro de Talavaras, the eldest son of the family, who is trying to navigate this negotiation, and is eager to take advantage of the opportunity to discuss trade for weapons and information with the Inquisition.

If Araceli wishes to speak with Armat, she will find out that he does have intel, but he will refuse to share it unless he is released.

Negotiations to free Armat can succeed, but there is opposition.
The matriarch, Gennaro’s grandmother Nereza, is convinced that Armat was spying on their trade and business, and intends to keep him imprisoned indefinitely. Securing Armat’s freedom may involve corroding the positive relationship Gennaro was eager to secure as a potential resource for the Inquisition, considering the respect that the de Talavaras still have for Nereza.

Leaving Armat imprisoned would undercut the efforts to gain the Inquisition more support at sea and a positive relationship with the Qunari.

If an attempt is made to free Armat by stealth, he will be executed, and all correspondence with the Inquisition will be ceased. They do, after all, know that the Inquisition is interested in securing his freedom.

Your character has been assigned to SHAPERATE OF MY HEART.
The characters assigned to this task are: Ilias and Jehan. You're welcome to say they volunteered for this, or were ordered to do it as part of their Inquisition duties.
  • No character will be given lead.
  • You can bring up to two more characters if you’d like. (Herian is also available for padding out numbers, just let me know in the next few days.)
  • Coordinate ooc to file a single report on the Diplomacy page by November 10th. Not filing a report will result in an automatic critical failure.
  • You don’t have to thread the whole thing, just RP about it in some capacity — ex: Logs before or after the mission, network threads, etc.
  • Bella and Kate are available for collaboration and brainstorming if you need any further assistance.

  • SUMMARY:
You rolled a 7 out of one hundred, against 40% chances of this mission failing. These odds can be improved if you get more diplomacy division members to go on the mission. In order to succeed with this mission, you need to take 3 more diplomacy members along.

It can be safely deduced that travelling into the Frostbacks with winter approaching is the easiest part of this journey, and perhaps the most pleasant.

Although the Inquisition has had positive interactions with Orzammar in the past, things get off to a rough start, and the Shaperate is a particularly sacred and closely guarded cultural treasure. Perhaps it’s because Jehan is of the Chantry, or perhaps it’s because neither of them have beards, or perhaps it’s just bizarre to think of these surface dwellers being able to talk any sense at all, when they need to put so much energy into making sure they don’t fall into the sky. Whatever it is, things aren’t going well.

There are three possible avenues, depending on what you would like to do/what is possible to wrangle oocly.
    1. Ilias and Jehan are the only agents sent: they do not/cannot send for support from Kirkwall.
    2. Ilias and Jehan are the only agents sent: they do send for support from Kirkwall/additional diplomats arrive.
    3. Ilias and Jehan are not the only agents, they have more diplomats already, no need to panic.

In option 1, the assignment fails. In options 2 and 3, it may succeed, but it’s still a struggle, and they’d probably really like more time and manpower to research. Let us know which option you go with once you know the final team and it’s determined if it’s a success or failure, we can let you know what information may or may not have been found.

If you would like to propose an alternate solution or take an approach I haven’t thought of, please run it past me so I can think whether there are any major hurdles to consider.

Your character has been assigned to IF I COULD CHURNEAU BACK TIME.
The characters assigned to this task are: Herian, Lakshmi and Yseult. You're welcome to say they volunteered for this, or were ordered to do it as part of their Inquisition duties.
  • No character will be given lead.
  • You can take up to three more characters if you’d like.

  • SUMMARY:

You rolled an 83 out of 100 to save Mother Riccarda (against 60% chance of failure), and a 58 out of 100 to gather intel on the southward push of the Anders forces (against 30% chance of failure), meaning you succeed in both of these tasks.

    Gather Intel
The trio will notice that patrols going west are coming back with more people than they left with in discrete numbers of reinforcements, then going east and coming back with fewer people, that have presumably been left elsewhere.

If Yseult and/or Lakshmi, stealth specialists supreme, move closer they will be able to determine that the Anders forces are loading weapons and supplies into false bottoms of carts that otherwise look empty or barely occupied, so they can disguise how much is being moved. If they take the time to stay and watch the movements for a long while, they will realise that the quantity of supplies is far beyond that which is necessary for the troops they have noticed being moved, and indicates a far larger army is being supplied. The direction of travel suggests that all these things are headed towards the Fields of Ghislain. It is also noteworthy that even though these movements are happening, the Anders line at Churneau is not weakened or compromised.

    Saving Mother Riccarda
When they arrive in Churneau, it is dark, although a light flickers in the windows of the all but abandoned Chantry. Shadows can be seen drawing close, and they must move fast to save Mother Riccarda. One of the would-be assassins was posing as an injured soldier who Mother Riccarda had been tending to, although when interviewed, none of the other soldiers would recognise him. It would seem Churneau is a greater risk to Riccarda than first thought, and she is encouraged to leave by the people she has stayed to support.

At one point during the escape, Mother Riccarda suffers an injury (non-fatal, obviously). This could be an arrow to her calf during a horseback escape, an assassin almost reaching her before the heroes take them out (but not before Mother Riccarda’s forearm gets caught by the knife in the struggle), or Mother Riccarda narrowly avoiding drinking poisoned water before it is slapped out of her hand (or something else suitably dramatic and cool, whatever).

Though she is unhappy to leave her Chantry and her people, she listens to reason, and departs from Churneau, although her leaving safe rather than dead means that matters in Churneau will not destabilise further.

This is the second time that the Inquisition has saved the life of Mother Riccarda. If Lakshmi should make it known to the Mother that she is a rifter, Riccarda will reflect on this also being the second time rifters have come to her aid, as well, thank Lakshmi for her help, and acknowledge that while she does not wholly understand what rifters may be or whence they come from, she owes much to their willingness to offer aid. She only hopes they willing to offer a little more, to see Orlais through these dark times.

Traditionally a more conservative member of the Chantry, saving Mother Riccarda and winning further support from her is a boon, despite her current displacement. Although she needs time to recover, she stands firm, and is all the more determined to advocate for what she believes is right, even if there are those who wish to silence her.

If you would like to propose an alternate solution or take an approach I haven’t thought of, please run it past me so I can think whether there are any major hurdles to consider.

The characters assigned to this task are: Val de Foncé. You're welcome to say they volunteered for this, or were ordered to do it as part of their Inquisition duties.
  • You can take up to five more characters if you’d like. (We suggest a minimum three person team, but live your best life.)

  • SUMMARY:
Revered Mother Grana is grateful to see the return of one of the original team who came to her aid, and so despite Val being so Orlesian and so Val (or perhaps because of it?), the interactions with Grana go well. If he chooses to disclose he is from the Scouting division this will impress her all the more, as she will feel her desire to make sure the documents were retrieved and delivered safely was taken seriously.

(If Val were to choose do run this mission individually, he would have a tough time. It would also mean that some of Grana’s enthusiasm for his return was dampened by the documents not having more protection to ensure their safe delivery to the Inquisition.)

The documents are maps of the caves and research about the possible meanings of the glyphs. Grana has not been able to determine their meaning, but she thinks they can be ruled out as having Dwarvish origins.

The maps will help with investigating the caves, by Grana warns that they maps are old, and reportedly don’t cover the entire network, just the particular passageways used in the past. They have a number of symbols on them, as well - could these refer to glyphs, or something else?

In exploring the caves, Val will find that the symbols on the maps do not refer to correspondingly located glyphs, but to traps. Some of these have been disabled or have rotted over time, some have not. He will need to contend with an Indiana Jones style over-water boulder-chase, and spikes that dramatically stick out of the wall. Both can be disabled, potentially.

Intermittently along the way, there will be symbols. His experience with the historical will mean he’s able to deduce that while these look weathered, it’s more to do with the environment, and the symbols are not ancient. Exploring further in the tunnels, beyond the map that Val is provided with, will lead him to find more of the symbols, and eventually a path and cave area that looks like it was being used as a holding location. There are broken crates, and the remains of a Venatori gladiator that looks like he might have met a terrible fate at the jaws of the cetus some months ago.

It looks like the location was left in a rush, but there are some documents. They are water damaged from months in the damp, and seem to be written in a code using similar symbols to the ones through the cave.

  • SUMMARY:
The Inquisition are not alone in recognising the potential value of Aurelia Pentaghast. The Venatori have also come to the conclusion that Aurelia is the strongest potential candidate to rule Nevara, and probably the most formidable military mind Nevarra could have in that role. They are interested in using the deal she made with the Anders to either ruin or control her.

A Venatori-hired rogue (spy, poet, and stealer of valuables and hearts) is also present at the negotiations, trying to secure proof of the deal in the form of correspondence or signed and sealed statements from nobles who collaborated in the bargain.

The bad news is that he definitely gets the documents he’s after.
The good news is that the team can stop him, with the excellent scouting members present and snooping during all the diplomacy.

The good news is also cursed.

The team must make a choice. The spy, Vel Ruso, will inform them that the Venatori are only honouring the deal Aurelia made with the Anderfels and leaving Perendale intact because they think they can use it to control the Pentaghasts. If the Venatori don’t receive proof, they’ll have no reason not to make the Pentaghasts look weak. Perendale will be attacked, and it is currently undefended.

If the Pentaghasts look weak, Aurelia will become less likely to secure the throne. Instead the throne could very likely fall to an inexperienced, barely-not-a-teenager Van Markham lad. Aurelia will need to be advised swiftly for Perendale to have any hope of not being razed, and for Aurelia to have a chance of ruling.

If the team decides to let Vel go so the Venatori do receive the information, Aurelia Pentaghast remains easily the most likely to ascend to the throne. However, she will be at the mercy of the Venatori and their blackmail material. Perendale will be safe in the short term, but Nevarra’s future in the long term will be far more vulnerable to Venatori influence, and saving it from that fate will become far more complex, and the potential future for Nevarra as an ally to the Inquisition will become far murkier.

If they take the second option, the team can attempt to mitigate the impact - either by supporting someone else, or by encouraging Aurelia to do something right away to prove it's baseless or to withstand it when it happens.

    What will you do, Inquisition?

If you would like to propose an alternate solution or take an approach we haven’t thought of, please run it past us so we can think whether there are any major hurdles to consider.

What: Secrets Secrets Are No Fun
    Who: Freddie (lead), Helena, Anders
How: Out of a difficulty level of 20/100, the group rolled a 31.

Upon arrival to the area indicated on the map, the group will indeed find a shrine to Dumat. The group will narrowly avoid being found by a group of Venatori, who will not be able to escape the suspicion that they are being watched, and will torch their campsite before fleeing back to the general mass of the incoming force. They will let slip that they intend to return to the area as soon as possible, and en masse.

The group will have a choice: return to the Inquisition, with plenty of a head start on the Venatori, or investigate the shrine, and possibly risk encountering Venatori on their return trip.

Please let me know the group's decision as soon as possible.

    What: Trap Making, Pt. 1
    Who: Val (lead)
How: Out of a difficulty level of 20/100, he rolled a 39.

Alas, Val will not reinvent the snare when it comes to trap-making. However, he will manage to miniaturize one trap of your choice, which is great, because the Inquisition is trying for stealth here. The good news is that this makes it relatively easy for Alexandra's terrifying minions to place them, but the bad news is that it only has a small area of effect, making it useful for taking out a single scout rather than a large number of people.

He will also accidentally set his fake mustache on fire at some point.

    What: On Their Stomach
    Who: Alexandra (lead)
How: Out of a difficulty level of 10/100, she rolled a 91.

Upon arrival in Ghislain, Alexandra will be taken to the side and have the boundaries of the mission explained to her by Thranduil. Given the thin spread of both Skyhold and Kirkwall personel, Alexandra will be given charge of about fifteen bright-eyed Inquisition recruits, freshly joined and briefly trained in Skyhold. These scouts will have never seen a rifter before, and will pepper Alexandra with questions about her previous life, Kirkwall, koalas, etc. Alexandra will pass that charisma check hard and will have a tiny army of over-eager recruits who will gladly help her with their first ever Inquisition mission, and together they will utterly strip the countryside of medicinal plants, and nearly all of the actually edible nuts, roots, and berries. However, due to Val's meager success in his trap-making quest, they will only succeed at placing a few dozen traps, focused on mainly disabling lone scouts rather than groups of soldiers.

Alexandra will also have the choice of poisoning water sources and setting '''mysterious'''' fires, which I need to hear back on you regarding soon-ish, so I can determine her success/failure on that front. Given that this will possibly affect the outcome of the larger fight, the report for the whole mission should be turned in by November 10th.

    What: Riftcon 9:44
    Who: Solas (lead), Christine, Wysteria
How: Out of a difficulty level of 60/100, the group rolled an 86.

The group's official instructions will be not to make waves, and to focus on persuading the regular members of the University as opposed to those lecturing. Rather than engaging in active debate, the Inquisition will have secured time for Solas to lecture on the theory of the Rifts, while Christine will discuss what to do when you encounter red lyrium deposits. Wysteria's job is mostly to sit there and look non-threatening, as well as answer general questions about her experience with the Inquisition and closing rifts. While this will be to middling effect, a chance meeting with some engineering-type students where she's able to engage them as equals regarding a problem they're solving will be much more effective as showing her to be not a spirit/demon.

While none of them will manage to convince any hard-liners of the people-ness of rifters, the utter inoffensiveness of the speakers and their attempts to teach and not lecture will leave most of the undecided students with general warm fuzzies about the Inquisition, if not rifters, and some of the professors. Several will approach Solas and Christine after, with requests to help them via correspondence on both rift related problems and red lyrium removal.

(Wysteria's new friends will take her out for drinks on the last night.)
